The “Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Guatemala” was signed on 12.06.2011 in the city of Guatemala, while the “Protocol to the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Guatemala” was signed on 04.23.2025 in the city of Lima. The regulation states that both instruments are convenient for the interests of Peru and specifies; likewise, it is indicated that the decree is excluded from the scope of the Ex Ante RIA in accordance with the Regulations of Legislative Decree No. 1565.
Likewise, it is relevant to mention that the objectives of the Treaty are to promote the expansion and diversification of trade between the parties, eliminate unnecessary obstacles to trade and facilitate the exchange of goods and services, foster conditions of free competition and increase investment opportunities. Additionally, it seeks to guarantee adequate protection of intellectual property rights and establish effective mechanisms for the application, administration and settlement of disputes arising from the Treaty.
In this regard, through Supreme Decree No. 023-2026-RE, the “Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Guatemala” and the “Protocol to the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Guatemala” are ratified, strengthening the bilateral legal and commercial framework between both countries.
