Mandatory phytosanitary requirements are established for the importation of fresh stone fruits: peach, plum, nectarine, cherry, apricot and plumcot, originating in and coming from the Republic of Chile.
As stated in Article 12 of the General Agrarian Health Law, the entry into the country of plants and plant products, animals and animal-origin products, agricultural inputs, packing/packaging and conditioning materials, means of transport, among others, shall be subject to the provisions established by the National Agrarian Health Authority.
Likewise, Article 12 of the Regulations of the General Agrarian Health Law provides that the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) will carry out the public consultations that may correspond for the adoption of phyto- and zoosanitary requirements, in accordance with the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO); subsequently, they are published in the official gazette El Peruano and notified to said organization.
With respect to the specific case, through Director’s Resolution No. D000014-2024-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSV (published in the official gazette El Peruano on 12.04.2024), the phytosanitary import requirements for fresh stone fruits (peach, plum, nectarine, cherry, apricot and plumcot) originating in and coming from the Republic of Chile were suspended, as a preventive measure in view of the imminent entry and spread of the quarantine pest Grapholita into our country, until new phytosanitary requirements are established for the aforementioned products.
Subsequently, following a technical study of the products in question, through Report No. D000001-2025-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSV-SCV, the Plant Quarantine Subdirectorate justifies the update of the phytosanitary requirements for the importation of fresh stone fruits originating in and coming from the Republic of Chile.
Accordingly, by means of this Resolution, the mandatory phytosanitary requirements are established for the importation of fresh stone fruits originating in and coming from the Republic of Chile, as follows:
- Production sites (CSG) and packing plants (CSP) that send fresh stone fruits to the Republic of Peru must be registered and authorized by Chile’s Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) before the start of the export season.
- Shipments must have an import phytosanitary permit issued by SENASA of the Republic of Peru, obtained by the importer or interested party, prior to certification and shipment in the country of origin.
- Shipments must be accompanied by an official phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin.
