DIRECTORIAL RESOLUTION NO. D000020-2026-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSA APPROVES SANITARY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF SPECIFIC PATHOGEN-FREE (SPF) EGGS FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

The General Agrarian Health Law, approved by Legislative Decree No. 1059, establishes that the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) is responsible for adopting the necessary sanitary measures to prevent the entry and spread of diseases that may affect animal health and national agrarian health. Likewise, current Andean and national regulations provide that products and goods of animal origin entering the country must comply with the sanitary requirements established by the competent authority, in order to ensure an adequate level of sanitary protection.

In this context, the Animal Quarantine Subdirectorate of SENASA’s Animal Health Directorate coordinated with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine of the Republic of Ireland to harmonize the sanitary requirements applicable to the importation of specific pathogen-free (SPF) eggs from that country, taking into account the sanitary conditions of origin and the control mechanisms required to minimize zoosanitary risks.

Accordingly, through Directorial Resolution No. D000020-2026-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSA, the sanitary requirements for the importation of specific pathogen-free (SPF) eggs from the Republic of Ireland were approved. The issuance of the corresponding sanitary requirements for products originating from the Republic of Ireland was also authorized.

Some of the requirements detailed in the respective annex to the regulation are as follows:

  • The products must be supported by an official sanitary certificate and must certify their origin from authorized establishments.
  • The SPF eggs must come from a city or county free from notifiable highly pathogenic avian influenza, viscerotropic and velogenic Newcastle disease, and egg drop syndrome (EDS 76), as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
  • The SPF eggs must come from a specific pathogen-free flock, in accordance with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia.
  • The establishments of origin of the SPF eggs must be authorized for export by the competent official authority of the Republic of Ireland and approved by SENASA of the Republic of Peru.
  • The SPF eggs must have been disinfected at the establishment of origin using products that inactivate the agents causing avian diseases, specifying the active ingredient, trade name, and concentration of the disinfectant used.
